Jantar Mantar was built in 1724 AD by Raja Jai Singh who founded the city Jaipur. It is among five observatories built by Singh across North India.

This observatory have four different astronomical instruments. It has extensive grassy lawns around it. This spot is very popular for picnic. 

The observatory consists of a group of six curiously shaped huge stonework structure which were invented to study and observe celestial phenomena, the location and the movements of the Sun, the Moon and the other celestial bodies.
