Know about Ugadi: Ugadi
I'm a Telugu person. Ugadi is a new year for telugu and kannada people. It is not only celebrated by telugu people but also sindhis and Maharashtrian people. It has different names in different places. Andhra Pradesh and Kannadians call it "Ugadi". Where as in Maharashtra and Goa people used to call "Gudi Padwa". Sindhis call it as "Cheti Chand".

How it is celebrated?
Ugadi is celebrated in every year in the month of April. The festival falls according to lunisolar calendar. It is the first day of the New year so make the day with full of joy. People also wear new and traditional clothes. 
And people make a dish on this day called "Ugadi Pachadi" and they distribute to relatives and friends.  

What materials are used in Ugadi Pachadi?

Ugadi Pachadi is festive food drink which consists of 6 ingredients with 6 tastes. The 6 tastes corresponds six emotions of life.

1. Raw Mango - tangy taste
2. Jaggery - sweet taste
3. Tamarind - sour taste
4. Green chilly - spicy ( You may use black pepper instead of chilly)
5. Salt - salty 
6. Neem flowers - bitter
 
What are the different tastes in Ugadi Pachadi corresponds the different emotions of life?
Tangy taste - for surprise 😮
Sweet - for happiness or joy 😄
Sour taste - for unpleasantness 😩
Spicy - for angry 😠
Salty - fear 😨
Bitter - sadness 😥

How to make Ugadi Pachadi?
First we have get tamarind pulp by soaking tamarind in water for some minutes. Then you can mix all the items and grind it. There is no proportion that how much quantity you add the ingredients. It is of your choice.  
If you are first time going to do this item follow the given steps.
1. Soak one teaspoon tamarind for 40 minutes to one hour. Then squeeze the tamarind pulp.  Collect the pulp in a bowl. 
2. Add ⅓ cup of water to the pulp.
3. Then add ¼ cup of grinded jaggery. 
4. Then mix the well with a spoon until jaggery dissolves in it.
5. Then add finely chopped raw Mangoes. 
6. Then add neem flowers to it. (People also used menthi powder instead of neem flowers)
7. Add ¼ teaspoon of black pepper powder and ¼ tea spoon salt and mix well. (People also use grinded green chillies instead of black pepper powder)

Now it's time to serve to your family and friends 😊.   
Other popular dishes also prepared on Ugadi that includes Voliga, chitranam(lemon rice), pulihora etc. Besides this, people also display the mango leaves on their door to welcome happiness in their life.
